I currently work with a 23 year old police cadet who is new to firearms. Since the department issues Glock 21's, he bought himself one. He is constantly peppering me with questions ("Why is a .45 better than a 9MM?", "Why would anyone want a revolver?" etc;), and comes up with pictures or internet articles about every "black gun" ever made or even conceived of. I was thinking of finding a down to earth, common sense, gun book as a gift. Or possibly something else?

Any suggestions gents?

Elmer Keith or Bill Jordan, I've heard stories of Dalton Carr (spelling) of which I have to start looking up stuff from him.

No Second Place Winner by Bill Jordan would be an excellent read for a young officer. Specific info on guns and loads is of course dated but the principles remain.
There's a Gun Digest book by Ayoob titled Combat Handgunning, 6th edition (not sure on the exact title) that's pretty good.

I'll take a look at my bookshelves later and see what else sticks out.
