S&W 44 mag MountainGun barrel question

by Brien @, NWArkansas, Tuesday, October 16, 2012, 11:07 (4368 days ago)

While looking at the barrel on a Mountain gun, i noticed that after the initial taper the barrel bulged and then tapered to the muzzle. The bore retained a consistent diameter throughout the length.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks
Brien

I have 4 of em and can't quite fathom what it is other than the tapered outside contour.

The revolver is at a dealer. From the frame, the barrel tapers towards the muzzle. Most barrels have a straight taper. This one has a bulge about midway then tapers once again towards the muzzle. Looks like the usual stuck bullet bulge but the bore is straight, without any bulge. If you lay a straight edge along the barrel it is obvious. Very odd looking.

Bargaining point!

Are you sure the bulge is not a reflection of internal barrel condition.

That would be a real bargaining point.

Tight patch will tell
