Excellent looking gun and leather. I could not imagine trying to carry a revolver that size IWB for concealed carry, but if it works for him that is great.

A friend brought over his RCNWMP New Service (reply)

I read an account of arctic exploration by Villjamr Johanson (spelling). In it he had to travel with another fellow by raft south to the closest telegraph station to notify the fellow's family that the reports of his being killed were not true. The local Mounties loaned them a Colt New Service in .455 caliber for protection and told them to just turn it over to local RCMP post after they arrived at their destination.

The NS always felt, to me, like... (reply)

a "big, honkin' revolver" (BHR from here out). When I handle it, I can imagine how much of a comfort it would have been in a trench in France. The Smith seems more, umm, "nimble" perhaps. Although the two, laid side by side, are very nearly identical in most dimensions. The actions on each are different but both are very smooth.

My NS was originally a .455 Eley which has since been recut to .45 ACP. I haven't really researched it beyond the build date of 1915. It doesn't seem to have all the proofs of the British guns I've seen so perhaps it is Canadian, but that could be quite wrong. If anyone happens to run into an unmolested .455 cylinder, I sure wouldn't mind putting it right.

Oh, and Nice rig Rob!!

Colts tend to stack up a bit at the end but it is so smooth (reply)

it doesn't really matter. I think one of the big mistakes Colt made was to scrap the New Service...the Anaconda; too little, too late.

Bigger grip frame aside, how does the action compare to the M1917 S&W's?

Good looking Simply Rugged rig.

I made Bob a pair of holsters this Sourdough with inside out straps for concealed or field carry and the Cattleman dress occasions.
