The Match Champuion is the finest DA revolver Ruger has ever (reply)

produced! It happens to posses one of the most misleading (Pointless) names they have ever hung on a gun... Smooth edges light yet strong, a great carry gun that can handle all the 357 magnum loads a person could want. I have sold every GP100 I have owned, because they are needlessly heavy and unbalanced. They weigh more than a N frame. Except for the Svelte Match Champion.

They've had the Match Champion for a while, it's a standard (reply)

Offering. It comes standard with the custom barrel, fiber optic sights and "target" grips. Personally after handling one I like my 6" GP that I've added the grips and sights too better and didn't cost me nearly as much.

especially for heavy bullets (reply)

I think it would be a good vehicle especially for heavy bullet loads. Might be a bit heavy for "perfect packing a la Taffin". Back when the Bisley version was available with 5.5" barrel in .45 Colt I thought that was the perfect vehicle for heavy bullet loads but those were extremely hard to get down here too.

I would think the .45Colt MG would be the perfect packin pistol if you need a lot of power, especially if you are John Linebaugh and are willing to use Ruger-type loads in it.

I also remember Sundles writing about using the FA 97 in .45Colt as a packin revolver since it handles the hottest Ruger loads. The 97 is relatively small and light.

Of course the RH will handle even hotter loads and not do as much damage to your wrist in the process.

I've been considering a different direction for "perfect packin"... the new S&W M69 in .44 mag, before they get hard to find.

saw a new Match Champion version of the GP100 Saturday (reply)

I don't know if it is standard production or some kind of "custom shop" version. It had big letters on the side of the barrel saying "Match Champion" or something like that. It mostly looked like a standard GP100 from a distance but had wood stocks that looked like they were intended for target shooting.

Ruger hates me. (reply)

They want to see me go broke. I was eye-balling a 4" .45 Colt at the local slobber shop a couple weeks back. Now, I'm REAL glad I didn't bring it home.

I have to give them credit. They are producing some great new products. The 1911 series (especially the LW!), the American Rifles, now this...

BTW, nice rig in the article Rob!

The Perfect Packin Pistol!

This is an excellent idea! I had a 45 Colt Mountain Gun... sent it to TK Customs to have it moon clipped...result: a 45 ACP /45 Colt Combo gun. Heavy hitting tail gun or relatively cheap to shoot and capable of competition or self defense... Ruger just upped their game , again. The Redhawk will take all the heavy loads you can stand and is tame as a .38 shooting ACPs... Pictured is my S&W Mountian Gun... a bit light for the heavier 45 Colt loads...Ruger's Redhawk will not have that problem... Disclaimer: an itinerant leather bender and his work is mentioned
