The sight body would not be a thin-edge-on bent sheet steel view. It's blocky and meant -- as it appears to me - for bullseye shooting. However, if'n you think it'll do, I believe I bought it very reasonably long ago from a bin of them at a show. Give me an address to which to send, and it'll go for $20 Post-paid, Pay when you get around to it and it's convenient.

Ayem, here. let me know what your intended use may be (reply)

I've got an old Mossberg 42 M(c) cached up north. It came with a side mount for a 3/4" scope and a junk scope in the rings. It'd be kind of cool to set it up with iron sights one of these days. https://www.havlinsales.com/22rifle.htm has a peep rear which would probably work with the original front sight. Oops. Come to think about it, I'm not sure it HAS a front sight...

Probably paid too much for the rifle back when. It'd still be cool to restore it with iron sights and a good magazine. Magazines for it are few and far between, and priced high to boot.

So I'm trying to figure out if your description fits into some kind of replacement sight that would work on the old plinker, or not. The "mil spec" is what caught my attention as some of the Mossbergs were used as military trainers, if my memory does not deceive me in the matter.

Please tell me more about the mil - spec ... nt (reply)

Paul, it'sa shell is an upside down U profile, with a crossbore dovetail that siturates right cloose to the bore. There are assorted inserts theat slide into place in inverted U housing, and a method to keep them there. It appeared to have made for .22 target trainers of some sort. Guess? perhaps there were issue target guns like out company armory had -- 5 or 7, each, Rem or Win boltactions with a simple high comb stock. had to pack'em up every time we left to go to training areas, too. Never could get acompany and Bn team/league going, tho. No one cared anymore about that stuff. any way, Parkerized and in a little frayed OF paper envelope. My gues is, that it might need a rise under it, unless the stock has a fair amount of drop to alighn eye dowen the bb;/ Hopingh someone here might be familiar with 'em. apologies for the lousy tyoing, but my eeys are not doing too well this eve, but ]should better in AM.

thanks fo iquiry, J.
