and applying the same ratio to the barrel yields an approximate 26" barrel with the forearm being about 38% of the barrel length (~10").

I was asking about retaining the 30" barrel on a Krag sporter just a few days back. Ran into the one in the link below. It's a dandy and I'd love to try and come close to that layout. I don't know the barrel length and am awaiting details from the auction house but it looks pretty long.
