My small torpedo says it can use four types of fuel. I have used kerosene in it but like
You was slightly upset at the cost! I use diesel now and other than a slight smell at start up and shut down, I don't notice any issues with it.

Master says their torpedo heaters up to 200k btu can be used with diesel and jet fuel, as well as kerosene. #2 diesel is heavier, has a bit of an odor to it, and can have issues with flowing at temps below 12 deg F. Red dye in fuel signifies non-taxed off-road fuel, either diesel or kerosene. The dye is added when the truck is loaded at the pipeline (in accordance with specs promulgated by the IRS) and burns just fine. A lot of stations that do sell kerosene don't move much of it for half the year, so it sits, draws water and grows algae. And occasionally somebody gets gasoline mixed in it somewhere along the way, which causes a sizeable number of house fires every year.

As long as it is white kerosene you should be fine. Diesel has a red additive and they now sell red kero here and the heaters don't work well with it and it puts off an odder. J.michael

Off topic thread here but I could use the help of the members.
I just paid $5 a gallon for kerosene. Furthermore, I don't bet the quality is too high. I don't need to use it every day but I go through about 20 gallons a year in my torpedo heater. I heat my garage when I work on my car or cast bullets. My torpedo heater does not say what grade of kerosene I can use (it is about 20 years old). Can I use Ultra Low Sulfer (15ppm) diesel fuel safely in my heater?
What is the difference between diesel fuel and kerosene (or K1 as some call it)?
