Yep, 'What is it good for?' (reply)

I knew an Indiana State Trooper who had one stuck in the door pocket of his patrol car to use in case a bad guy walked up with body armor on!

I wanted to buy one when they were available and cheap. I borrowed one from my dealer and almost every round, my grip caused the safety to pop on! Decided it was probably not a good fit for me. Cool guns though and I can see a lot of fun doing some long range plinking with one!

Fun to shoot. Good way to get rid of brass.

Hornady shows:
AA7 8.7gr MAX for 1400fps.
2400 11.8gr MAX for 1500fps.
H110 14.2gr MAX for 1700fps(!).
COL 1.320" all out of a CZ-52.

I double-checked my typing but be careful anyway.

I played around with some Wolff springs and think I recall ending up with a stiffer spring rate so the brass is "only" about 30 feet away.

I'd be interested in hearing how it does on various varmints. I expect it'll work.

7.62 Tokarev for Bob Hatfield (reply)

Thanks Hoot but don't go out of your way and cause yourself heartburn or worry. I tried the 90 grain XTP and AA-7 today and it was wonderfully accurate but slow at around 1250 fps. I was using 8.3 grains and it shot to the point of aim at 25 yards. Didn't have near the muzzle blast that H-110 had and was more consistent in grouping. I am going to try somewhere around 12 grains of 2400 next time out.

The more I shoot the CZ the better it feels. But I am trying to figure out what it is good for. I will take it along when groundhog hunting as soon as I practice on small bottles out to a hundred yard. I am now hanging a tarp to the right of me at the range to stop the brass from going into orbit.

7.62 Tokarev for Bob Hatfield

Hi Bob,

My records for what I loaded for the CZ-52 are apparently MIA. However, I never stray very far from published loads. Hornady does list loads for the 90gr. XTP with H110 showing the highest velocity at 1700fps (have to take back what I said earlier). Looking at what I have on hand, I would have likely used the H110, W296 or 2400. Also listed, are 800X, Blue Dot, HS-7, AA7, AA9, 2400, Viht N-110 and W296. Any of those powders of interest? I am traveling the next two weeks but I can probably scan the data I have and get it to you when I get back.

Cheers,
Hoot
