No surprise. (reply)

I'm not surprised. I guess credit has to go to Sam Colt, but the design allows for all kinds of odd variations to travel in that hand channel and work just fine. OAL is probably the only semi-critical measurement, to assure lock-up, but not bind. The wunnerfull world of black powder Colts.:)

I wasn't expecting that....

Several weeks back, I posted about a broken hand in my U.S.Pt.F.A. SSA clone. Is is one of the first made from Uberti parts and finished "under the blue dome". I could not find any Uberti parts that looked like the one that came out of the pistol, but I bought the closest one I could find from Brownells, figuring I would have some grinding, filing, stoning and fitting to do.

I found my round tuit and sat down this afternoon for a lengthy fitting process. Any fitting begins with the first try, so I stuck the new hand and spring into the frame and replaced the hammer. Well, it operated smooth enough in the frame and window. So good so far.

I put the cylinder and pin in and low and behold it rotated and locked as it should. This is starting to look good.

I put on the bottom strap, top strap, grip and spring and miracle of miracles it is good as new. It proved to be a drop in part. I am going out right now and buying a lottery ticket.
