Good to hear they are worthwhile. It's more about replacing what was taken than anything else. I feel responsible as it was out of my truck.

Dad had a .17HMR Single Six Hunter (reply)

"Had" being the operative word as it was stolen out of my truck a couple years back. I have been keeping an eye out to replace it for him. About the cheapest one I've seen sold since went for something around $900. Lately, they've all be hovering around $1100.

Now, what would I pay? Well, I haven't won an auction yet. I'd like to be in the $500 neighborhood (or less...I'm a cheap so-and-so).

17 HMR revolvers?

I am always a dollar short and a day late. In the past both Ruger and Smith and Wesson made a great 17 HMR revolver. The Ruger Single Six Hunter and the Smith and Wesson 617 were made for a relatively short period of time. I recall them in some local gun shops but never went for them.

Then they are discontinued and I discover a niche for their use. I do some hunting on state lands in Connecticut and Rhode Island where you are limited to rimfire rounds. The 17 is considered to be under 22 lr for some reason thus you get added power out of a handgun.

I search Gun Broker now and then and see some Hunters and 617's for sale. My question is how high would you pay for either one? Thanks.
