I'm thinking te 441 is a modern version in 44 mag (reply)

not in the least comparable to the older 44 SPLs.

I forget the Rossi series from back then, 720 was one, Taurus were 431 441.

431 is heavy for its size, but will shoot where one sets the sights at least that is true for a good load using 200 grain RNFP cast.

I bought a blue 3" model 431 many years ago.. (reply)

Nice piece, great "large-hole" plinking gun, my wife shoots it double-action way better than I can single-action. A keeper, for sure.

It's the night-stand piece, with Silvertips.

I've owned three of these over the years. Rossi made two versions, mine have all been the adjustable sight version. They also made a DAO hammer less version with fixed sights, but I've never seen one. Both versions had a three inch barrel.

As much as I like the Rossi 720 ... It's not a $475 gun.

I shot Paul's Taurus when he was in MN a few years back. (reply)

Up until that time, I didn't even know they existed. I did find a Model 441 a while later for $300 OTD. Stainless, 4", adjustable RWO and RR front. It is a decent little revolver and seemingly about as close to a 696 as I will get (never having seen one in the flesh).

I think they're catching. I took mine to TSMS one year and a friend of Mark's shot it commenting, "I didn't even know these things existed." and now, he too owns one.

I bought a stainless 431? about 10 years ago for $175 (reply)

Shoots a mile high at 25 yards with a 240 SWC. Seems like it shot pretty good with a 180 JHP over about 9 grains of Unique much closer to the POA. I need to try it out again. Its been 10 years since I have shot it.

Funny how you guys talking about a gun will cause someone to regain interest.

Price seems about $75-100 high. (reply)

There have been a few on GB that have sold for $350-375 recently. They vary in layout too. Have seen adjustable sight, fixed sight, fluted and non-fluted cylinders, and some with bobbed hammers. Good guns though. I scooped one for $200 about a year ago, but it was traded away.

Rossi and Taurus get a bad rap from the "ain't made in the USA" crowd. But they can produce find firearms. My little 431 is a right handy little fiveshooter. Did some long range plinking with it a while back. Held right on a tumbleweed at about 250 yards or so when I did my part. And that in spite of the fact that it's only a 3" barrel, fixed sights and I can't shoot that good. A four inch with adjustable sites in stainless should make a really decent carry piece.

Went to my Gun Store today

Have not been there in awhile. They had a Rossi 44 Special in the consignment case. Stainless four inch barrel 5 shooter. Not familar with them but it looked K-Frame size with rubber grips. Nice adjustable rear sight and a red ramped front. Very nice condition. No end shake, carry up spot on and timing was good. Priced at $475. I was slightly tempted but it would have taped out my gun fund and my Mountain Gun would serve its purpose. Are these any good?
