Another alternative, if you'd like. (reply)

I can certainly throw in a FEG PA-63 if you'd like. I even have some 'numium cased ammo so we don't have to worry about losing brass in the holler. Fair pistol but the ergonomics tire my shooting hand faster than others for some reason.

I got one! I like it for what it is but it is a big (reply)

".380" and that's pretty much all it is. Might be enough.

I think the gun is pretty good. I really liked it after a lucky shot killed a ground hog at an amazing distance (for such a pistol). I liked a lot better when I could get 500-rounds of Russian hollow-points for $60 shipped. Those days are long gone (if you haven't noticed). I think the Pearce grips are a must, at least for my hand.

Ii did write it up for my blog: http://shootingwithhobie.blogspot.com/2003/03/i-was-recently-asked-about-bulgarian.html

P.S. I wouldn't be too eager to sell mine either. It works, always. It is one of those guns I would not hesitate to give somebody if they needed a gun, just in case.

To me they are an improved Mak - much better sights, ambi safety, normal mag release instead of heel release and holds 12 rounds (is fatter than the 8 round Mak though).

300.00 is high but in the years when the wall was still up I know two collectors, prices were 1 tenth of what they paid that bought them One was 1000.00 and the other 1200.00 . When the market flooded with them they were hurting. Life of a gun collector. J.Michael

Makarovs? (reply)

I had an East German one that I should have never let get away. The fit and finish was very nice. Really nice. I got it back when they were dirt cheap and worth maybe 20 bucks over a Russian version. Kicking self.

I'll bring mine (reply)

Sights are tiny but pistol is reliable to the extreme. It was a bargain when I bought mine for $150 but paying $300+ you start getting into the range of a true 9mm and it's pretty big for merely a hot 380. Ammo is nowhere as cheap as it once was. Would I buy another one? No. Would I sell the one I've got? NO!

Makarovs?

A buddy is looking into Makarovs, and I'm clueless as far as personal experience with them.

Beyond the anonymous online repeat-o-knowledge, any pointers you can offer would be appreciated. I did offer that surplus pricing, part of the back-then appeal, is a thing of the past, and that fine alternatives are plentiful.

If anyone can bring one to CSA for me to examine and fire, that would be a bonus. Thx!
