I appreciate the offer Charles ... (reply)

At this point I'm just gonna go forward with the one I have. Otherwise I'd make a deal with you. What I was originally wanting to do was find a Delta Elite grip safety as well and pair them together. The Delta Elite has a Commander hammer and a standard grip safety that's been lowered on top to clear the hammer. Hard to find though without a bunch of Gunbroker/eBay type work.

That is exactly the sight I'm considering... (reply)

Saw it on a Brownells email and saved it. There's no dots on it so if it's the gun and not a poorly machined factory sight, I might be able to open the notch slightly instead of drifting the sight too far. Hopefully that won't be necessary though. I am considering a sight staking tool and replacing the front with a plain black serrated sight as well. I'm not a big fan of dots unless they are tritium. I appreciate the offer on the frame jig. We'll see how well I get along with the drop-in for now. I don't mind cutting the frame but I don't have a lot of time for projects right now and I'm hoping to keep it simple.

Gave up trying to find a genuine Colt Commander hammer...

At least in stainless, so I ordered a C&S Tactical II hammer. It's stainless bar stock, hardened and very nicely contoured with all the edges nicely chamfered. For now I have a Wilson drop in beavertail grip safety on the way. I figure I can always instal a fitted GS later if I choose. I have the hammer, just waiting for my grip safety. After that, I just need to figure out what's up with the sights. The rear sight is a bit too far to the left for my satisfaction. It's a standard 1991 type sight and to hit center at 25 yards it has a bit of dovetail flat showing on the right and overhangs the dovetail a bit on the left by about 1/32-1/16". There isn't a flat piece on that sight to measure but I personal think the sight isn't perfectly symmetrical. Once I get the the hammer/GS done, I may drift it out and install it backwards. If the situation reverses I'll know it's the sight and find a different rear sight. If it doesn't I'm not sure what I'll do but it definitely bothers the heck out of me to not have that sight centered in the dovetail.
