My Dad still has the knife and some of the old hunting clothes. Next year I may be spending time in the woods with all equipment and clothing straight from the late '40s.

Very cool... (reply)

My Grandfather had one like that he carried deer hunting sometimes. Cannot read the markings on the blade in your pics and it has been years since I last saw my Grandfather's, just remember it was made in Germany. He used to claim was just the ticket for field dressing big game, in the folded position it handled most chores and was not too unwieldy, and opened up, it reached deep into the chest cavity to cut the windpipe easily. Practical, or not, it is pretty cool, and would be just the thing to carry when hunting with an Oberndorf sporter, or Mannlicher/Schoenauer carbine.

auction.

i have a folding bowie from the 1870s, and have posted a picture of it before, but this one is way fancier . it really is not all that practical compared to a fixed blade knife, but ..... well.... i couldnt resist it.

should match up nice with a remington style derringer or a colt or remington conversion revolver.
