The Sig 556

Spent the morning zeroing and proving four Sig 556 Classics that were a recent acquisition for our little PD. For those not familiar they are sort of an AK based, post-modern 5.56 military rifle that uses M16 mags. They are excellent rifles with a 2 stage trigger and diopter rotating drum sights that feature precise apertures for 100-300 meters...

The CQB notch must be used to be appreciated.

http://www.tactical-life.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/sig-sauer-rotary-diopter-sight.jpg

You simply drop the ring around the front sight into the bottom of the notch and to about 60 yards, the bullet goes right on top of the post. I was hitting a 7" bull easily and quickly at 50 yards using it. There were no feeding problems from any of the rifles. Zeroing groups of 3-5 shots were routinely hovering around an inch and a half at 100 meters using 55 grain UMC ball.

My only complaint is with the idiot who installed the rear sling mount so it would bump the end of your nose when using a forward stance. Needless to say we will be visiting the shop, lighting a torch and bending those SOB's forward 45 degrees.
