Shot it a bit yesterday. (reply)

Maybe I don't know how it's 'supposed to' work but I can't seem to get the en-bloc clips in from the top. They stop about where the top of the catch would be. So, I took to sliding them in from the bottom and closing the floorplate. Works well if you wiggle them in just right. It kind of makes sense when you consider the clip release now functions as a floorplate release. When finished, open the floorplate and drop out the clip. Not at all fast but it seems to work just fine.

I wonder if it still uses the en-bloc clips? Or do you suppose the floorplate was to save the clip instead of dropping it when the last round was chambered?

Gonna take it to Africa for lions/elephants like Hemingway/Bell?

It's still the original 6.3x53R. It's got some real nifty features. Double set triggers (I'm a real sucker for those), spoon bolt, the cocking piece rear sight as noted. The one that baffles me is the magazine floor plate has been converted to a hinged and fully covered piece rather than the open Mannlicher style. Not sure how that works but it is slick. The pistol grip and cheek piece were grafted on after the fact but it is so well done you can barely see the seam.
