Thanks folks! (reply)

For pure ear protection, I would go with plain muffs and add plugs if needed. The electronic ones I thought may be useful for when I play RO for our pistol league maybe helping with dealing with the folks on the line.

Thanks again!

Electronic earmuff recommendations? (reply)

Bought a set of Proears back in the late '90s and still use them from time to time. They are good but at the time darn expensive. Use the Howard Leights now as do my kids.

Proears are an excellent choice also. (reply)

My older Peltors have about a 26db NRR IIRC. These newer slimline (even Peltors) units with 19-22db NRR aren't worth much without adding earplugs.

Then again, my yardsticks are short barreled 454C/500L defoliators.

Lastly, without proper fit none of them will live up to their specs so it would be helpful to try before you buy.

SECOND ON THE HOWARD LIGHT MODDEL. (reply)

12 of us used these through a Gunsite carbine course . The guys that didn't start out with them bought them before the end of class. I have used them at the the holiday and CSA etc. I still like ear plugs under for rifle or magnum pistol shooting. But I didn't do that for the carbine course.

I'm sure there are better but they work well for me and they aren't so thick that I can't get down on a rifle or shotgun stock.

After I bought them I noticed just about every shooter on the tv shows I saw was wearing the same kind!

To try them out, I bought a cheap pair. They worked as advertised all right but the unrestricted sound quality was for sh..., I mean, 'poor'.

What brand(s) would you recommend?
