But as noted the 308/7.62x51 is not compatible with the little AR-15 actions. If you want a superior 308 Auto rifle get a DSA made FN/FAL.

You can of course get AR15 uppers that shoot 7.62x39 and .300 Whisper (really .308 diameter).

It won't work. The AR15 lower receiver is too short, and the mag well wouldn't hold a 308 length magazine anyway. You'll need to buy the whole thing. FWIW, you can't mount an AR 15 upper reciever on a 308 length lower either.

Not a sixgun but thought it was a good place to ask. Is there anyone out there that makes a upper in 308 that fits a standard AR-15 lower? A few guys asked me at work this week and AR's are not my thing, I have one but that is all I will ever know about them. I did a quick measurement and looks like OAL length for the 308 is too much. I told them they would have to go with a bigger lower like a Armlite,Rock River etc that will accept a larger OAL cartridge.
