Unfortunately, that's no joke, either.

And it would have bothered me, except for one thing: Within a short time of being there, I blew a good portion of the paint off my truck jacklighting New Mexico jackrabbits using various handguns, up to and including a few in .44 Magnum. (I think the 4⅝" OM Flattop with full-power 125s was an even better paint remover, but it also flattened the jacks like nobody's business.)

The good news is, no one is likely to notice.

Rust on NM cars??? Generally means they are from out of state..
I have seen Mod A's and even Mod T's, half buried in sand or parked in drives without a spec of Rust. We don't have any humidity here. In fact we are starting a three year drought. Shades of the 30's...

First of all, I hope your daughter's car makes the trip from GA to NM, and you all arrive safely.

If (when?) her car finally expires, though, she couldn't have made a better choice for a place to bury it.

True Story #1

One time, I saw a car full of people traveling down Central Ave, and there was so much smoke pouring from the vehicle, you would have thought it was on fire.

No one − and I mean no one − took much notice.

So, what's the point?

New Mexico may be the *only* place 'Where there's smoke, there's fire' does *not* apply.

True Story #2

My brother also lived in Albuquerque, and while he did 'OK' there, his car did not. Matter of fact, it up and died.

Not being attached or very deeply invested in it, he simply adopted the local custom and left it on the street.

N-o-o-o-o-oh problemo: It disappeared muy pronto, never to be heard from again.

True Story #3

Went through town about ten or fifteen years ago. Stopped for lunch.

Took back route. Wound up in alley.

Noticed 'dead' car. Not much glass. Lots of rust. Been there a while.

Realized I was 'back'.

To New Mexico. Haven't taken a trip like this in YEARS. It's gonna take a while cause I'll have to stop and pee about every hour.

My mechanic buddy and I spent the weekend putting a transmission cooler on my daughter's car, a '98 Avalon with 200k on it. We'll be pulling a 6 x 12 trailer. He went over the car, said we should make it, but I'm a little anxious. I hope this doesn't turn into a "roman holiday."
