Corrupt and self serving behavior. The State Police are generally perceived as jack booted thugs.

A classmate of mine lives in Cleveland and has a CCW permit. He was involved in a traffic accident that required a short trip to the ER and he left his pistol in his locked car. His wife showed up to retrieve the pistol and take it home. She was stopped at the scene by the local law and asked for her "permit".
She explained the situation and was told that she would have to turn it over to them. Against protest she did and was then told "you might as well turn in your medical licence" for the crime of illegally possession a firearm not registered to her.....

After a call from their family attorney, they were told that things would go more smoothly if they would just forgot about the gun instead of going to court to get her licence reenstated.

One of the cops saw an opportunity and got a nice pistol.

From other reading on this case, the cop had 58 other complaints against him. He had internal affairs look at two other videotapes where he went over the line and was cleared. In addition, this one was also originally investigated and cleared by them before it became an Internet sensation. In addition, the head cop originally refused to fire him after this hit the Internet. In addition, many of the other cops on the force were donating their sick leave to him so he could continue to get paid until this all worked out (their contract allowed it).

Sounds like the problems there are more than just this one guy.

rage...."A Canton police officer who threatened a CCW permit holder in Ohio with death and violence has been fired.

City Safety Director Thomas Ream ruled that Harless is no longer a member of the city’s police force.

A Marine vet friend went through essentially the same thing recently in So Cal. he has a fairly rare CA WP from N. Cal. CHiPs officer went nuts rolled back up threatened to shoot MArine, etc. Case is pending...
