Burris scopes can often be had as a "twofer". Buy the scope of your choice at about 'normal' price and they will throw in a GPS, binoculars, range finder, spotting scope or a rimfire scope. I have done this a couple of times. Got the rimfire scope as well as binoculars. No flys on either of 'em.

The BDC reticule is straightforward and uncluttered. The scope comes with some papers which detail common caliber/bullet weights along with zero distances indicating which hash mark means what for an assortment of cartridges.

My shooting doesn't depend on knowing the difference between 8 inches of drop and 10 so I do not worry over it much. If I were going after p-dogs or such at distance, I might worry more but, so far, I've stuck to big critters at middlin' distances.

I have also been impressed with the current FullField II from Burris. Optics are very good, particularly for the price point. They have a simple BDC reticule but I haven't worked with mine at all. I don't think they make a fixed power...

I bought my son a pair of the new Redfield binocs and they are absolutely a first rate product. They seem to be as good as any binocs I have used in the last few years except for my pair of Zeiss. Exceptional quality at a great price, and with a lifetime warrantee by Leupold to boot.

My next scope will be one of the new Redfields...

I had a Leupold Rifleman that I swapped onto a couple different .308's. later on I got a Refurbiished Nikon from Natchez Shooters Supply and sold the rifleman. The optics seemed better to me, I liked the BDC reticle and the adjustments just seemed crisper. I now have two, one on my .308 boltgun and the other on an accurate AR. Something interesting on the BDC is that you can go to nikons website and punch in what load you are shooting, either factory or handload and it will tell you what range the circles should be on. I did this for my AR as its used as a coyote gun. Then when I setup in a spot, I'd hit the laser rangefinder and know at certain areas what my holdover was. 'Course with a fast stepping .223 on a coyote you can just nout hold dead on as far as you can see around here!

From what I understand the Rifleman is basically a VX-1. I believe that Bob is correct and the new Redfields are Leupold products.

I have Nikon Monarchs, BuckMastars, and ProStaff....all with BDC reticle...all are fine quality and for my old eyes are better than Leupolds or Zeiss Conquest which I have replaced every one with Nikons...Amazon.com has them as does Optic Planet and Bear Basin used to carry..but now seems limited....your will not be sorry...Cry only once...when you get quality...you will be happy with any of these...the ProStaff is the more reasonably priced ones...

I have all three brands you listed. I really like the rifleman for the money. I have only one new redfield. It is a 3-9 with accurange reticle a circle and then a dot below. I really like it. I have it on my muzzleloader. I have several nikon Prostaff. They are good but I prefer the redfield and leupolds to them and have slowly swapped them out with better scopes. Also check out the VX-1 Leupolds they are in the same price range.

The 4x12 Bushnell that came on my 78 is an OK scope. Click adjustments are precise, do exactly what the dial says and it holds zero. Optics are just OK if you have time to fiddle with the adjustable objective; 'fast' it ain't. Low light clarity and eye relief at 12X are disappointing; the scope is cumbersome and heavy. It has one attribute- it is powerful enough and clear enough to check the 300 yard accuracy of any rifle. So it stays.

I have been spoiled by a couple of cheap old 4X scopes we've had around here forever; one Tasco and one Bushnell. Both are sufficiently clear for 400 yard game shots, both are dependable and both are fast. So I want something with those qualities and I won't run from a variable. Money, unfortunately, IS an object. I'm looking at the 'new' Redfields, Nikons and perhaps the Leupold Rifleman. I've 400 yards to shoot a coyote or deer across, right out the back door, so I'm looking at the Ballistic Plex/Mil Dot reticles.

Experiences, Ideas, or Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
