How we pronounce Coyote (reply)

I imagine a lot of people East, West, North, and South have seen the old Loonie Tunes Road Runner cartoons with Wile E. Coyote. Coyote is pronounced Koy-o-tee so it rhymes with "Wile E.". It's more a case of Poe-tay-toe, Poe-tah-toe, Toe-may-toe,toe-mah-toe than anything else.

The word is Spanish in origin, and is pronounced Coy-yow-tay.(the best I can do for Spanish phonetic spelling). But we're a congenial folk here, and we don't mind the occasional furriner calling one a Ky-yote now and then.:)

How we pronounce Coyote (reply)

Well, I'm not a metrosexual, but I've always pronounced it KI-O-TEE, as nearly everyone here also does. I suppose the Mexican Spanish speakers out west get peeved at all you who pronounce it KI-OTE, since that isn't how the word is pronounced in their native tongue (whilst getting peeved at us easterners, who also butcher it). And, somewhere, is a Nahuatl native who is peeved at all the Mexican Spanish speakers who butcher the word's original pronunciation. ;)

I sure would love it if the pelts went for $100 each. We have gobs of the varmints here and it would make for an enjoyable second income.
