On a larger and/or higher-resolution screen, you can clearly see the "44 MAGNUM" stamp on the side of the barrel in the final scene.

The story of how S&W more or less 'scrambled' to provide the original Dirty Harry set with a Model 29 is also well documented.

The Internet lore surrounding Dirty Harry's famous .44 Magnum has reached almost mythical proportions, yet no one seems to give a tinker's-you-know-what about the one used by Nick Nolte's character, Jack Cates, in 48 Hours.
