I suppose if I'm going to keep one fixed blade (reply)

It'll be safe and sound in my hands: I coat the blade with RIG grease, and I store the knife in a Bill's soft case (never in the sheath).

If or when the Randall market rebounds, it'll still be 'like new'.

Meantime, I'll just fondle it every now and then − or post a few pics.

I suppose if I'm going to keep one fixed blade (reply)

This very moment is a bad time to sell, perhaps.

Ebay might even prove that thought wrong. Certainly do not try to sell to advanced collectors who perceive a soft market, and who WANT one when buying.

I have no doubt you will get every penny you paid and then some, if you just do not try to sell at this moment.

Just be patient and give it a little time (ie a couple of years), as there are only so many knives out there made in that time frame, and fewer still in the condition of that knife of yours.

Was it John Taffin who said "you cannot pay too much, you can only pay too soon"?

I suppose if I'm going to keep one fixed blade (reply)

I probably can't get my money back on it, so it might as well be this one.

Oh, well, it could be worse.

Anybody wanna buy a 'LNIB' Al Mar Fang ("I", not II) with Black Micarta scales?

One of them 'has' to go, and it'd be a lot less than the Randall...

I had Charles Whitman's 8 inch #1 in my hands at one time. (reply)

Thought about buying it, but I didn't have the money. The guy had bought all of the stuff from the Austin PD in a property room sell off. Had Charles J. Whitman and his Marine service number engraved on the right side of the blade where Randall does that sort of stuff.

Classic Carbon Steel: 1960s Randall Made Knives Model 1-8

One interesting thing to me about this knife is the fact that the blade is closer to 3/16" thick than 1/4". I don't know if that bears any significance, I just think it's neat. The knife is also considerably 'livelier' in the hand than the typical RMK #1-8.

Here are a couple of current pics:
