The factory letter calling the caliber of my old SAA ".45 Long Colt" was written by a wimmins.

There's just too much variation in frame dimensions (even within generations, never mind among them).

The other alternative is 'Try before you buy', but I realize that's not always an option.

The good news is, I've only bought a few pairs of SAA stocks without seeing them firsthand.

Just don't ask me why I didn't 'get it' the second time around.

What are SAA's of recent manufacture considered to be? Third Generation or is there now a Fourth and Fifth?
