Paco Kelly wrote a piece about the Uberti 1873 in .357 not being strong enough for a diet of magnum rounds. He cited the lever link action as not being strong enough for the pressures developed. I don't know if it was the Leverguns site or GunBlast where I saw it.

Yes, I have witnessed that myself, and realize the .357 '73 is the preferred rifle these days.

Just having some thoughts about the marketing decisions. I guess if a fella was wanting a REAL 1873 in .357, this would fill the bill.

are using 357 '73's and shoot 38's in them. These guys are extremely fast....I've seen 6 or 7 empty cartridges in the air with the fast guys.

I'm thinking less backthrust on the bolt and more side gripping of the chamber makes a modern 1873 togglelink OK for the .357 The larger case heads of the 44-40 and 45 Colt would cause problems if someone was not a prudent reloader maybe?

Odd that they waited this long to do so, however, given that Uberti has produced thousands and thousands of 1873s already. If not for the Winchester (née Miroku) name, it would just be another replica in a world full of such.

Odder yet, it is being made in .357 Magnum? If they really wanted to capture the nostalgia crowd, they would have gone for the original, .44WCF. If it is the CAS/SASS crowd they are after, they better hope the name overcomes a saturated market, and possible prejudice against Japanese built Winchesters

At least there is no cross-bolt or tang safety that I can see.
