The first time I met my future mother-in-law (reply)

The subject of having a carry permit came up and I told her my 38 was locked in the trunk of my car. She asked why I didn't have it on! Of course we are talking Texas.

My wife and I met via a Christian website - just to assure her I was one of "the good guys" before we met face to face I actually scanned in a copy of my carry permit and sent her.

Just my tuppence, Mate.... (reply)

So far as comfort is concerned, it just depends of what you're accustomed to. I find that I have carried so long that it feels uncomfortable to NOT have a gun on.

Admitted that nowadays deep concealment is usually not as important as it used to be for me and still is for many. I am fortunate to live in a place where firearms are extremely common and nobody bats an eye if a holster peeks out from under a jacket. Ain't sayin it's the thing to do, but it happens a lot.

A crew was putting up a prefab metal building at my place last week, and I noticed that the crew chief had an empty holster on his belt. I asked him what good an empty holster was, and he said his gun was in the truck. Said he was always taught it wasn't polite to go to another man's house carrying a gun unless the owner said it was OK. That's an OLD mountain tradition, and I asked him where he was from.

East Tennessee, of course! I was taught the same thing when I was a kid.

I carry a 642 rather than a .380 (LCP, Bodyguard, DB380, (reply)

I just gave up on a Kel Tec PF-9. It was light and thin and easily concealed when worn with the belt clip. I just couldn't shoot the darn thing! I much prefer the idea of 8 rounds of 9mm to five of .38 but I can at least get follow up joys with my 442. I normall carry in front poker but I'm going to order a Clip Draw for it and carry it like I did the PF-9. We'll see how it works out.

Revisit Evey Day Carry (reply)

Art,

I switched on and off for the last few years between a S&W 442 (same as the 642 but blued) and a Ruger LCP. I found that I tended to carry the LCP more often...just a little less bulky in the front pocket. I just recently sold the 442.

There is NOTHING wrong with a 442/642 for every day carry. It is a matter of preference. My 442 just sat in my desk drawer and got carried less and less so down the road it went.

Just my $0.02.

The 642 is a great choice. (reply)

I've carried J-frames, Bulldogs, full and reduced size 1911's. Like others below, the LCP is ALWAYS along. I personally don't find the sights an issue. I can purposely shoot well out to 15 yds or so and I can point shoot well enough closer in.

There's loads of good choices out there. Have fun and try 'em all!

Revisit Evey Day Carry

I sure appreciate all of the advice concerning this topic. I believe I should look again at J frames especially the 642. Any one have any experience with the new Body Guard 38+P with the laser? The Ruger counterpart has an amazing trigger but the huge rubber grip is a non starter.

I sure do love our Community
