Ruger's first DA sixguns

The Security/Service/Speed Six were, if I have my history correct, released in .357 Magnum originally. They were then later on chambered in .38 Special, 9mm .38 S&W (and others?) in an effort to chase police sales both here and abroad.
I got to thinking about the .38 version of the 'Sixes. It would seem logical that the same heat treating would be used and the only real variation would be chamber depth. If this were true, then .38 +P should be absolutely no issue and things like the .38/44 HD loads should also be no real troubles (assuming adequate cylinder length). Correct?
Just idle thoughts on a rainy day....thanks for listening.
Indian police Rugers
There were also some early Ruger Service Sixes made in .38 S&W, believe it or not, for the India market. They were sold to police forces in that country, where the caliber is apparently still in service (or was in the 1960s).

auctioned off last year. Amongst the guns were a Speed 6 and service 6 in 380 rimmed and a case of ammo...

Skeeter was given a 380 Rimmed Speed Six as a thank you by Ruger for "escorting" Bill Ruger Jr on a sales trip to Bolivia. The excuse was that he spoke some Spanish. Sally Skelton wrote that she believed it was mostly to sample the local libations.
I used to own that gun. It was basically NIB and not one of his "shooters". I talked, briefly, about it with Bart Skelton at the NRA Show in Louisville a few years ago and he confirmed that it wasn't anything that Skeeter fancied.
I sold it to another Ruger collector that specializes in DAs.
Neat guns, though.

I have two of the Security Sixes in .357 - a 6" stainless that was my first revolver and a 4" blue that I bought a few years ago as a woods gun. They really are delightful revolvers and although I've put a ton of .38s through them and more than a few .357s as well, they've never so much as hiccuped. I actually prefer them to the S&W K-frames (and I have three of them - a Model 17 6", a Model 18 4" and a Model 15 4"), but I'm sure that opinion places me in a distinctly small minority.
I find the GP100s to be clunky in comparison to the Security Six series.

I've had four. First to us (Dad and I) was the 4" Speed-Six (blue) I now have. Then, I got a 4" stainless Security-Six which was one of my few assets at the time of the divorce and paid the ticket for that and kept the kids where they were, with me. So, recently I was able to finally replace that gun and then happened to be in the shop when a stainless 2-3/4" Speed-Six was traded in. It was booked in and out at the same time and came home with me.
