Colt 1991

Yesterday I saw a Colt 1991 5” in pretty good shape for $550. Am I a moron for not grabbing it? It had a set of boring Hogue rubber stocks innit and a really snazzy chrome barrel bushing compensator, so those would have to go away, but other than that it looked good to go. One mag and no factory box.

That is a good, thought not great price on a good solid Colt pistol.

Kind of what I thought. When you see Rock Islands and other cheapies going for $4-450, a little more for a baseline Colt seems pretty good

It's hard for me to get excited about a Colt 1991

I didn't like them that much back in 1991. They seemed like more of an economy version of the Colt 1911.

Well, that’s exactly what they are. A base model, especially good if you want to customize it to fit your needs/wants.

Colt 1991

I have had no problems with mine. It isn't a pre-Series 80 Government model but is a decent gun. The major differences is that it is a Series 80, the finish isn't as refined, and it has a nylon trigger and main spring housing. Mine shoots well. Dan Staley sent me a 1911A2 trigger and I installed a Smith & Alexander MSH with lanyard loop. I found this sufficient to satisfy me. I have a Series 80 Combat Commander, a pre-series 80 LW Commander, a LW Officers and a Garthwaite CCO to which to compare it.

Thanks for mentioning ol' Dan, a really nice guy!

I forgot about the plastic parts

I like my 1911’s wit long triggers and flat MSH, so those parts would probably end up getting replaced eventually too.

Dan is a good dude, I miss his presence here, along with some others.

Run, do not walk, back to wherever you found it and hope against hope that it is still there. I paid $700 for a 1991 Combat Commander about 3 years ago and was glad to get it for that. It is a FINE shooter.

Those things may be ugly but are one of the best built and most reliable 1911s ever built.
